Cruisin With Carol

The following is a compilation of my weekly column which appears in the River News Herald

My name is Carol Ray and I, along with my husband Bill, retired in 1996. We had always wanted to see America     first and became full-time RVers. Along with our 3 children, Michael, Barbara and Lori, we were tent campers most of our lives. When we decided to become full-timer RVers, we had never owned an RV and knew little or nothing about Rving.

We set out on our first trip, during which we covered over 15,000 miles all over the USA and spent 7 months on the road. It was a wonderful experience and we learned a lot. I read a lot of books about RVing prior to leaving but most of them were way over our heads. I kept complaining to my husband that someone should write a book for beginners and he kept telling me to do it. Thus began my writing career. I wrote a best selling book entitled “Your Home On Wheels”, a Beginner’s Guide to Becoming a Part-Time or Full-Time RVer. Since then, having discovered my love of writing, I write a monthly column in the Las Vegas Sports and Recreation Guide and have had articles published in various newspapers and magazines.

Bill and I came to the Delta to visit our son almost 3 years ago. We fell in love with the area and, other than a few short trips and one extensive trip to Alaska, have been here ever since. We even bought a pontoon boat, then traded it for an old Tolleycraft cabin cruiser, refurbished it and love spending time in the water.

His column will be mostly about the California Delta both in and out of the water. With permission of the Editor, I will tell stories, take you to places of interest, eat in and write about local restaurants, and will hopefully give you a column you will enjoy reading. Nothing political or too serious ever drips off of the end of my pen or creeps along the keyboard of my computer. And so, I shall begin with a true story.

Till next week, Journey Safely and mind the signs along the road.
